In view of more than 600 vacant warder posts across Odisha’s jails, the Prisons Directorate has directed the deployment of Home Guards to manage prison security temporarily. The decision aims to ensure smooth operations and maintain law and order inside jails until regular appointments are completed.
As per official instructions, Home Guards will perform duties for about a year or until the recruitment process concludes. The Jail Department has written to all district Superintendents of Police (SPs) to facilitate the arrangement. This step comes as a precautionary measure to address manpower shortages in prison administration.
