The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Odisha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 27 to 29. The alert includes the possibility of cyclonic winds reaching speeds of 60 to 70 km/h. Districts such as Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri are expected to experience intense rainfall on July 27. By July 28, the yellow alert will extend to the entire state, with the southern and coastal regions anticipated to face the brunt of the weather system.
Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, emphasized the potential for cyclonic winds and heavy rainfall during this period. She urged residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant and prepared for adverse weather conditions.
The IMD’s warning underscores the need for precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of the impending weather system. Authorities are advised to monitor the situation closely and take necessary actions to ensure public safety.
